TERRE HAUTE, Indiana — The Drake University softball team defeated Indiana State, 5-3, Saturday morning in Terre Haute. The Bulldogs took the series, 2-1, after falling in game one but winning game two.
The Sycamores started the morning with a 2-0 lead after Isabella Henning hit a home run to left field brining Bella Peterson home with her.
Drake bounced back in the top of the second when MaKayla Rice doubled down the left line, allowing Libby Ryan to score, making it a 2-1 game.
In the top of the fifth, Macy Johnson slammed a ball into left field to record a solo home run and give drake a 3-2 lead. Indiana State quickly tied the game after an error by the Bulldogs allowed Peterson to score.
The top of the sixth brought Carey Koenig and Rice across home plate, giving Drake a 5-3 lead. The Bulldogs held off the Sycamores for two more innings to take the series, 2-1.
Mackenzie Hupke pitched five of the seven innings to record the win for the Bulldogs and struck out six batters.
Drake returns to Iowa to take on UNI on Tuesday in Cedar Falls for a doubleheader before returning to Des Moines to host Valparaiso.
