CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Drake University softball team fell in its doubleheader against UNI Tuesday afternoon in Cedar Falls. The Bulldogs scored first in both games but were unable to stop the Panthers.
UNI 10, Drake 2
The Bulldogs were the first on the scoreboard after
Delaney Taylor doubled in the top of the first, allowing
Emily Valtman to score, giving Drake a 1-0 lead.
Taylor then scored on a wild pitch to put Drake at a 2-0 advantage over the Panthers.
In the bottom of the second, Brooke Snider hit a grand slam to put UNI up 4-2.
The bottom of the third brought four runners across home plate for the Panthers, putting them ahead 9-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, UNI's Mya Dodge tripled, bringing Hannah Isley across home plate to end the game 10-2 in five innings.
UNI 7, Drake 4
The Bulldogs were the first on the scoreboard in the top of the second when
Carey Koenig slammed a ball past the left field fence to record her second home run of the season and put Drake up 1-0.
UNI responded with a two-run homerun from Daryn Lamprecht for the Panthers to take the lead 2-1.
Valtman was due up in the lineup to start the third inning and doubled to get on base.
Macy Johnson was next and did the same thing, allowing Valtman to score and Drake to tie the game 2-2.
The Panthers recorded a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth and a solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings. Entering the top of the seventh, the Bulldogs trailed 7-2.
Heidi Wheeler and
Paige Bedsworth were the last two Bulldogs to cross home plate Tuesday afternoon, to finish the game 7-4.
Makenzie Hupke started in the circle for Drake in game two and she recorded four strikeouts in her 3.1 innings.
The Bulldogs return to Des Moines for a weekend series against Valpo, starting Saturday April 23 at 12pm.
