CHICAGO, Illinois – The Drake University softball team fell to Loyola in the series opener Saturday April 30 and made it to the top of the fifth in game two before having to suspend the rest due to inclement weather in the Chicago area. Play will resume Sunday at 11am.
In game one, the Ramblers took the early lead in the bottom of the first when Sydney Barnett sent a ball into past the fence to record a three RBI homerun.
In the top of the third,
Macy Johnson found an opportunity to advance to third base due to an error by the Loyola shortstop. She then scored to put Drake on the board.
Delaney Taylor scored shortly after, to make to a one run difference.
Loyola tallied three more runs in the bottom of the third and Madison Ebeling recorded a solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth to give the Ramblers an 8-2 lead.
The Bulldogs had three cross home plate in the bottom of the sixth to minimize Loyola's lead to three.
Addie Lightner recorded two RBI's after Taylor and Johnson scored after she doubled down the right field line.
The Bulldogs remain in Chicago resume play at 11am Sunday.
