FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Drake University track & field team saw several student-athletes set personal bests at the John McDonnell Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas at John McDonnell Field April 7-8.
The hammer throw events took place a day earlier on Thursday, April 7.
Anthony Barmes set a new Drake men's outdoor record of 62.87 meters/206-3 while
Ethan Marshall (58.65m/192-5),
Adam Phillips (57.60m/189-0) and
Austin Jentz (53.94m/177-0) all set outdoor personal bests in the men's hammer throw.
In the women's hammer throw,
Katelyn Williams (56.88m/186-77) recorded her season best for fourth place while
Centaine Noom-Duckworth (53.23m/174-7) finished in seventh place.
Aziz Jdai won the men's 3000-meter steeplechase by over 17 seconds with a time of 9:06.37.
Connor Visnic (8:29.98) placed second in the men's 3000-meter run.
Busiwa Asinga came in second place in the In the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.83.
Personal records were set in the 800-meter run by
Jack Burns (1:54.69) on the men's side and
Gracie Shannon (2:25.14) as well as Meghan Coulter (2:26.55).
Pur Biel turned in his PR time of 3:59.57 in the men's 1500-meter run.
Phillips continued his stellar start to the outdoor season with a throw of 50.66m/166-2 in the men's discus for sixth.
Cloud Masibhera (6.95m/22-9 ¾) took fifth place in the men's long jump.
In Drake's first javelin of the season,
Will Tsai (53.45m/175-4) finished in sixth place followed by a personal best from
Ethan Marshall (49.32m/161-10).
Bulldog track & field will send competitors out west to California for events next weekend (April 14-16) as well as have student-athletes stay in Des Moines for the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake Stadium on Friday, April 15.
