DES MOINES, Iowa -- Drake University head men's basketball coach
Darian DeVries has announced the addition of
Corey Edwards to his staff as an assistant coach.
Edwards joins the Bulldogs after one season on the staff at Creighton University as a graduate assistant where he recently helped the Bluejays to the NCAA Tournament round of 32.
"I'm extremely grateful to Coach DeVries for the opportunity to be here," Edwards said. "I have admired his accomplishments from afar and am excited for the opportunity to learn from him and be guided by his leadership. We have an incredible group of young men on this team. They are hardworking, passionate and eager to learn. I will do whatever I can to help them reach their potential on and off the court. I'm happy and excited to be a contributing member of this program."
Prior to Creighton, Edwards was an assistant men's basketball coach for one season in Hillside, N.J., at The Patrick School. He served as an assistant coach and skill development trainer for Montverde Academy from 2019-20, where he aided Montverde to a MaxPreps National Championship. Edwards has also spent the previous three summers training and developing professional athletes.
"We are very excited to add Corey to our coaching staff," DeVries said. "He has incredible energy and enthusiasm for the game and will do a great job with our guys on and off the floor. He's also had a variety of experiences as a student-athlete and a coach. Those experiences will benefit him on the floor and in recruiting."
The New York City native started 62 games at George Mason University from 2011-15, where he earned his bachelor's degree in sports management. Edwards was named a team captain for the Patriots during his final two seasons.
