COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Drake University cross country teams impressed at the Gans Creek Classic hosted by Mizzou at Gans Creek Cross Country Course on Friday, Sept. 30. Drake men's cross country finished in fourth place out of 22 teams while the women's squad placed 10
th out of 24 teams.
Isaac Basten led the way for the Drake men on Friday morning with a seventh place finish and 8K time of 23:50.3.
Aziz Jdai (24:13.0) took 20
th and was joined in the same pack for most of the day by
Enzo Marie (24:18.6) in 28
th place.
Aidan Ramsey wrapped up his first meet in a Bulldog uniform in 42
nd place with a time of 24:29.9. Fellow freshman
Juan Trasobares also performed well with a time of 24:41.1 followed closely by
Connor Visnic (24:46.2).
Pur Biel (25:14.2) and
Brendan Cain (25:40.8) rounded out the Drake competitors.
"It was a tremendous day for us at Gans Creek," head coach
Jay Koloseus said. "The men started us off with many personal bests in a loaded field."
Basten, Jdai, Visnic and Cain all set personal records.
In the women's 6K,
Brooke Mullins (20:33.3) once again earned third place.
Tyla Lumley created separation throughout the day for a time of 21:26.3 to come in 37
th place.
Emilie Meyer logged a final time of 22:03.1.
Katherine Lawson (22:21.7) and
Barbara Vrhovac (22:22.5) finished neck-and-neck while
Anna Knueve (22:43.9) wasn't far behind.
Maia Italia (24:32.4) and
Lauren Low (25:05.4).
Mullins, Lumley, Meyer, Vrhovac and Knueve all recorded personal bests.
"The women's team turned in a great performance with some big personal records and placed well," Koloseus said. "Our young ladies really held their own out there. This performance sets both of the teams up well to bring home big conference and regional accolades."
The next meet on the schedule for Drake cross country is the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill. on Friday, Oct. 14.
