DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake women's tennis team captured their second-consecutive home victory this weekend with a 5-2 win over the Golden Eagles of Marquette. The Bulldogs' win yesterday moved them above the .500-mark to 2-1 overall while Marquette fell to 0-2 to start the 2023 spring season.
 
The Bulldogs started the day earning a point in doubles play. The duo of Darinka Stepan and Mille Haagensen took down the Golden Eagles' top twosome while Kendall Hunt and Elizabete Klavinska also won their doubles match.
 
Drake continued their solid play in singles, winning four of the six bouts. In the number one spot, Ines Stephani defeated Elilija Kojcic of Marquette. Haagensen, Klavinska, and Oriana Parkins-Godwin also came out on top in straight sets.
 
"I'm thrilled with the poise and grit we compete with today against Marquette," head coach Breaunna Addison highlighted. "They are a tough team and challenged us at every line from the first to last point of the match. We remained poised and confident; and stepped up on the big points. We hope to continue building on our success as we head into our first road match at Wichita State next week."
 
The Bulldogs will travel south to take on the Shockers on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. in Wichita, Kan.
