Tulsa, Okla. - The Drake men's tennis team concluded the qualifying round of the 2023 ITA All-American Championships on Monday, Oct. 3. 
Jeremy Schifris was the lone bulldog to compete in the singles qualifying round and the duo of 
Oliver Johansson and 
Matija Matic were the only Bulldogs to compete in qualifying doubles.
           
"Overall this has been a very encouraging event for us," Head Coach Ben Lott said. "We have had several matches where we have either won sets or gotten to a tie-break in one of the sets. Both of our matches in Qualifying went this same way. As a group we are on a very good track and I am excited to see what the rest of the Fall will entail."
           
Schifris was defeated by Pablo Masjuan from the University of California, Santa Barbara. The two fought hard in the first set, with Masjuan edging Schifris by a 7-6 [7-4] margin. Masjuan went on to win in straight sets, defeating Schifris 6-4 in the second match.
           
Johnsson and Matic were defeated in straight sets by Oliver Tarvet and Iiro Vasa from the University of San Diego. Johansson and Matic were bested by scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
