Mullins Advances to NCAA National Championships

Brooke Mullins has become the first Drake women's XC runner to qualify for NCAA Nationals since 2005.

STILLWATER, Okla. – The Drake men's and women's cross country programs turned in their best team finishes in school history at the NCAA Midwest Regionals at the Greiner Family Cross Country Course on Friday, Nov. 10. Brooke Mullins moved on as an individual qualifier for the NCAA National Championships next weekend.

The Bulldog women's team finished 14th of out of 32 competing teams while Drake men's cross country took seventh out of 28 teams.

"As an overall program, this is the best we have ever been in cross country in the NCAA regional system," head coach Jay Kolosesus said. "With that, we have so much to celebrate and smile about leaving Stillwater and sending Brooke to NCAA nationals. Seeing the teams come together has been a highlight of the fall. I am grateful for the trust and focus we have received from the athletes."

Mullins finished seventh in the women's 6k with a time of 20:40.4 to become the first Drake women's cross country runner to qualify for the NCAA National Championships since Ashley Anklam in 2005. Seventh place is also the best finish in an NCAA Regional by a Drake women's XC runner since Anklam was sixth in 2005.

Carmen Krawczysnki Gonzalez (21:32.6) and Emilie Meyer (22:01.3) finished in the Top-70 in 37th and 68th place respectively. Anastasia Kirillov was next to cross the finish line for Drake in 22:29.9. Amanda Radava (23:16.5) completed her first cross country season as a Bulldog along with Erin Macfarlane (23:39.8). Barbara Vrhovac (24:00.1) rounded out Drake's competitors.

"I couldn't be prouder of all the women and how they performed as a team today," associate head coach Anna Bearss said. "Behind the scenes, it's been incredible to see the growth in our culture this season. The women are the most committed and excited group I've ever worked with. Walking away with the highest finish in school history is more than an impressive result at face value, it's symbolic of the season they've created for themselves. I look forward to seeing Brooke finish strong in Virginia next week."

Enzo Marie was the top finisher for the Drake men's cross country squad in the 10k race with a final time of 31:19.3. Brogan Giffin (31:41.1) and Cameron Bell (31:43.8) were next to each other in 42nd and 43rd place respectively.

Jake Turner (32:03.1) was next, followed by Juan Trasobares (32:16.4) and Aziz Jdai (32:23.6). Isaac Basten finished the race with a time of 32:48.1.

Mullins advances to the NCAA National Championships in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday, Nov. 18.
