MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Drake University softball team finished play at the Blues City Classic in Memphis, Tenn. this morning with an 8-0 loss to SIUE (6-11). Drake's defeat marked their second loss to the Cougars at the Blues City Classic and ended a two-game winning streak.
Drake (4-10) managed just one hit in a game controlled by the SIUE defense. The Bulldogs were kept off the basepaths until the bottom of the fourth inning when Hailee Lehman singled back up the middle. A fly out and double play quickly stifled any opportunity for the Bulldogs to mount a rally.
Lexi King was a shining star for SIUE with all six innings in the circle. She also produced at the dish, going 2-for-4 with and RBI and a run scored.
Molly Hoekstra (0-1) took the loss in the circle for Drake.
Mackenzie Hupke and
Allie Timmons also saw time in the circle as Hupke tossed a solid four frames with seven K's.
Drake will head north for their next weekend tournament at the Gopher Indoor Classic in Minneapolis, Minn. The Bulldogs will take on four non-conference opponents across five games from Friday, Mar. 10 to Sunday, Mar. 12.
