Scherf, Giles Recognized on CSC Academic All-District Team

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Drake men's golfer Lucas Scherf and women's golfer Kristen Giles both earned spots on the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District team, the organization announced on Tuesday, May 23.

One of the most decorated performers in Drake women's golf history, Giles was the runner-up after a two-hole playoff at the 2023 MVC Championships. She turned in a season-low round of 69 and claimed medalist honors in the Loyola Parkinson Invitational with an overall score of 225. Giles notched a 16th place finish in the ORU Spring Invite shooting 73-78-72--222 in the regular season finale.

Scherf fired a career-low and Drake record low round of 63 while winning the individual championship -12 in the Loyola Intercollegiate on Feb. 28. He took five consecutive top-20 finishes into the MVC Championships and was a 2-time MVC Golfer of the Week award recipient in 2023.

The 2023 Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third team Academic AllAmerica® honorees will be announced June 22.
