The Basics
The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track & Field and Cross Country Committee has announced the participants for the 2023 Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships preliminary competitions on Friday, May 20. Drake University track & field will send six athletes to compete in the West Preliminary hosted by Sacramento State, May 24-27.
Who's Competing
Drake's selected participants in the 2023 NCAA West Preliminary are
Anthony Barmes (Hammer Throw),
Ethan Marshall (Hammer Throw),
Isaac Basten (1500m),
Brooke Mullins (3000m Steeplechase), Adam Phillips (Discus) and Chandler Haight (Shot Put).
A total of four Bulldog throwers will compete against the nation's best. Barmes owns the Missouri Valley Conference and Drake men's hammer throw record (231-5). Marshall had an impressive season as well with a personal best of 209-7. Phillips qualified in the men's discus as he holds Drake's school record in the event (184-4). Haight displayed improvement throughout the season to best her own women's shot put program record (53-7.5).
Multiple NCAA track & field All-American
Isaac Basten recorded his personal and school best of 3:36.99 in the 1500m run at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Mullins steadily bettered her women's 3000m steeplechase school record to 10:08.10 to win the MVC title. She also became the first Drake women's athlete to win a Drake Relays event since 1995.

The qualifiers out of the West and East regions will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held from June 7-10 in Austin, Texas.
