CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Drake men's tennis team claimed the doubles point for an early lead before the 14th-ranked team in the country, North Carolina (18-8) pulled away for a 4-1 victory in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs (16-11) having qualified for their 14th NCAA Tournament all-time and second in a row, saw its successful season come to a close on Saturday, May 6 at Chewning Tennis Center.
Matija Matic and
Oliver Johansson teamed up to defeat the ninth-ranked doubles team (Casey Kania/Ryan Seggerman) in the nation, 7-5 while
Jeremy Schifris and
Olle Sonesson Lidholt defeated Will Jansen and Karl Poling of UNC, 6-4 to secure the coveted doubles point.
The Tar Heels responded with singles wins at positions No. 1, 2, 4 and 6.
