MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Drake University cross country programs opened the 2023 season on Friday, Sept. 1 at the Oz Memorial hosted by Minnesota at Les Bolstad Golf Course.
"It was an exceptional first outing," head coach
Jay Koloseus said. "Coach Bearrs and myself were very pleased to see how the athletes tonight performed. It's exciting to bring this momentum into the season."
Drake claimed the first four finishers of the men's 5K led by race winner
Enzo Marie (15:21.0) followed by
Cameron Bell (15:33.4),
Juan Trasobares (15:38.3) and
Aidan Simon (15:47.3).
Ethan Vargas (16:04.0) and
Jack Burns (16:41.0) rounded out the Bulldog lineup.
In the women's 5K,
Carmen Krawczynski Gonzalez ran a personal best of 18:15.8 for second place and
Emilie Meyer (18:17.7) in her home state, took third.
Anastasia Kirillov logged a time of 19:29.0 while
Maia Italia crossed the finish line in 21:08.1. Freshman
Kate Parsons had a time of 22:51.3 in her collegiate debut.
The next meet on the schedule for Drake cross country is the
Greeno/
Dirksen Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 16) hosted by Nebraska.
