LINCOLN, Neb. -- Enzo Marie turned in another impressive performance as the Drake University men's cross country team won the overall title at the Greeno Dirksen Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 16 at Mahoney Park Golf Course. The Drake women's cross country program had three runners compete.
"Very excited to see where this small group is at," head coach
Jay Koloseus said. "We produced some awesome results. This meet served as a decent checkpoint for us to race some of our crew. We plan to add five more of our top athletes in two weeks."
In the men's 8K race,
Enzo Marie (23:36.41) won the Red Division (Division-I teams) and finished second overall while
Aziz Jdai (24:05.27) pulled into seventh.
Brogan Giffin (24:20.05) and
Aidan Simon (24:26.95) were next to cross the finish line in 13th and 15th place respectively.
Connor Visnic (24:37.94) finished just outside of the overall Top-20 and
Ethan Vargas (25:31.50) rounded out the Drake lineup.
In the women's 5K,
Amanda Radava (18:32.15) paced the three Drake runners followed by
Erin MacFarlane (19:14.09) and
Meghan Coulter (20:17.96).
"We raced a small group of middle distance athletes without much XC experience," cross country associate head coach Anna Bearss said. "They showed up and ran composed, like veterans. All three put together incredible races, and it's a great indicator for where the entire team will be in two weeks when we race in Chicago."
The next meet on the schedule for Drake cross country is the Loyola Lakefront Invitational Friday, Sept. 29 in Chicago.
