DES MOINES, Iowa – Franklin P. Johnson Director of the Drake Relays Blake Boldon has made an addition to the event staff ahead of next year's 115th running of the Relays. Tre Stanton has joined the team as Associate Director of Relays Operations.
"Tre officially joined our team on Monday, August 26, but his previous event experience has accelerated his learning curve and he's already contributing significantly to our team," Blake Boldon, the Franklin P. Johnson Director of the Drake Relays said. "As a volunteer with the Iowa Sports Foundation, I got to see Tre's professionalism first-hand, and the Drake Relays family is lucky to have him on our team. All those who will get the chance to work with Tre will undoubtedly see his commitment to doing things at a high level."
Stanton brings deep central Iowa roots to the Relays office with his most recent experience as the Director of Sports & Competitions at the Iowa Sports Foundation. In that role, he oversaw more than 150 events with over 20,000 annual participants including the Summer and Winter Iowa Games and the Iowa Senior Games. Stanton coordinated scheduling, event operations, and various public relations pieces. Prior to that position, he held other stations at the ISF beginning in 2021 from an entry-level intern to the Fundraising Coordinator and the Assistant Sports Director.
Previously, Stanton served as the Guest Experience Coordinator at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Center where he had major influence on daily operations and more broad scale procedures.
Stanton's event operations journey began at the University of Iowa where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport and Recreation Management. While in Iowa City, Stanton served as a student worker and supported the university athletic facilities management staff.
"I am thrilled to be working for Drake University and the iconic Drake Relays," Stanton said. "As a proud Des Moines native, I've always admired how this historic event brings our community together and showcases our city on a global stage. The impact of the Relays stretches far beyond competition, inspiring generations and celebrating the spirit of athletics and unity that defines our beloved Iowa."
The full staff for the 115th edition of America's Athletic Classic, including the 2025 recipients of the Barb Cox Endowed Relays Internship will be announced in the weeks to come. Stanton will be directly involved in the hiring and management of those interns as the entire team gears up for April's festivities.
