The Basics
The Drake University women's tennis team will look to get back on track after a week off since their last event. The Bulldogs will travel to Iowa City for a meeting with the Hawkeyes on Sunday, Feb. 18 with hopes of climbing back to .500 on the season.
Bulldogs by the Numbers
Drake currently holds a 3-4 record after two of three meetings in a back-to-back-to-back weekend. The Bulldogs took down Omaha on Feb. 2 before tripping up in two-straight one-point decisions vs. Montana State (Feb. 3) and South Dakota (Feb. 4).
Ines Stephani and Mille Haagensen, the top two players in Drake's lineup, have led the Bulldogs this spring. Stephani has posted a 10-2 overall record with just one loss apiece in singles and doubles. Haagensen boasts an 8-2 mark in the Bulldogs' No. 2 spot.
Rebecca Ehn and Darinka Stepan have also been key contributors as both players are currently above .500 on the year.
Scouting the Competition
Iowa enters the weekend with a 3-5 record so far this spring. The Hawkeyes opened the season with a win over FGCU in Fort Myers, Fla. before dropping five matches in a row. They picked another pair of wins over Memphis and Northern Illinois on Feb. 9 in their last time out. The Hawkeyes are set to take on Iowa State tonight as part of the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series.
Iowa is led by the duo of Daianne Hayashida and Barbora Pokorna. Hayashida has posted a 5-2 record as the Hawkeyes' No. 1 player while Pokorna has gone 4-1 between the fourth and fifth positions.
Drake trails Iowa in their all-time series with Iowa by a 5-2 margin. Their last win over the Hawkeyes came in 2015 in Iowa City with their first victory coming in 2004.
