ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Reigning MVC Player of the Year
Ines Stephani did something she has never done as a Bulldog in the team's last outing and was rewarded for her efforts as the league's Singles Player of the Week, the league announced this afternoon.
Stephani, a senior, earned Drake's lone point in a 6-1 loss at Iowa (2/18) last weekend. She picked up the team score by taking down Daianne Hayashida at No.1 singles. Hayashida entered the match ranked as the No. 85 singles player in the country, marking Stephani's first ranked win of her career.
The win moved Stephani to 13-2 in singles on the season and was the first ranked win of her career.
The Bulldog women's tennis team will be back in action this weekend with another pair of road contests at Creighton and Nebraska.
