WAVERLY, Iowa – The Drake University track and field programs put together a respectable effort at the Wartburg Good Friday Challenge on Friday. The meet took place at Walston-Hoover Stadium in Waverly, marking the start of the 2024 outdoor season for the Bulldogs.
On the men's side, the team placed fifth put of nine teams with 31 points, while the women's team placed sixth out of twelve teams with 33 points.
Senior
Dyer Jarabek (1:58.77) had a notable 800m dash with a third-place finish.
Juniors
Dylan DeAngelo (50.95) and
Deylin Chandler (50.98) almost made the podium placing fourth and fifth in the 400m dash.
For the women, junior
Centaine Noom-Duckworth (60.37m/198-01) took the silver in women's hammer throw while first year
Lara Smits (48.21m/158-02) earned top honors in the women's discus throw.
Junior
Madison Bunton (58.79) placed second overall in the 400m dash for another highlight of the day.
Sophomore
Hayden Cross (11.02) took the sixth-place position in the men's 100m dash while also placing fifth (22.11) in the 200m dash as well.
The teams will compete next on Friday and Saturday, Apr. 5-6, in the Outdoor Select at the Walston-Hoover Stadium in Waverly, Iowa.
