ASUZA, Calif. – The Drake University track and field team finished the second stage of a split weekend with a selection of athletes competing in California. The Bulldogs posted some solid results at both the Bryan Clay Invitational and Beach Invitational.
At the Bryan Clay Invitational, the Drake distance runners performed well with a handful of top 20 finishers.
Isaac Basten came across the finish line in 18th-place in the 1,500-meter invite with a time of 3:40.11.
Brogan Giffin earned a 13th-place finish in the open division of the men's 1,500m with a time of 3:46.24.
Elsewhere,
Connor Visnic posted a 14:12.10 mark in the men's 5,000-meter open, good enough for a 12th place. The women's 5,000-meter run featured
Tyla Lumley in the open division. Lumley ran in a 16:55.48 time for 15th place in that grouping.
Both
Emilie Meyer and
Amanda Radava competed in the women's 1,500-meter run with a pair of top 50 finishes.
Bulldog throwers were on display at the Beach Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State University. Drake's top hammer throwers
Anthony Barmes and
Centaine Noom-Duckworth proved their recent MVC Field Athlete of the Week nods with a pair of top 10 placings. Barmes finished fifth with a top throw of 68.59m/225'-0". Noom-Duckworth came in eighth with a toss of 60.59m/198'-9".
Lara Smits added to the Bulldogs' throwing marks, taking 40th at the Beach Invitational in the women's shot put with a throw of 13.22m/43'-4 1/2".
Drake will continue their packed schedule next weekend with another split between the John McDonnell Invitational hosted by Arkansas from April 18-19, and the Kansas Relays from April 19-20.
