EUGENE, Ore. – Anthony Barmes and
Isaac Basten represented Drake Unversity at the NCAA Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Eugene, Ore. The Drake duo completed their national efforts yesterday afternoon with Barmes highlighting the day and Basten concluding his storied Bulldog career.
Barmes took 10th overall after finishing as the runner-up in Flight 1 with a premier hammer throw of 70.04m/229'-9". His top 10 placing was good enough for Second Team All-America honors, marking the second year in a row hitting that esteemed threshold.
A native of New Zealand, Barmes will now shift his attention to international competition as he will attempt to represent his country and qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris later this summer.
Basten competed in the men's 1500m run on Wednesday afternoon. One of the best to ever run at Drake, the veteran runner finished 11th overall with a time of 3:39.60. He failed to advance to the 1500m finals on Friday but did post a season best mark. Basten also earned Second Team All-American honors with an official top 16 finish.
The remainder of the NCAA Outdoor National Championships will run through Saturday, June 8.
