Drake leader honored for stellar senior season

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Drake's Katie Dinnebier was included among the nation's best backcourt players as a top 10 candidate for the 2025 Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Award, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced Monday afternoon. She was also named to the 2024-25 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Midseason Watch List, announced by the USBWA.

Dinnebier is averaging 20.2 points, 7.3 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.8 steals while shooting .498 from the field, .398 from 3-point range, and .750 from the free throw line this season. She has scored 30-plus points on five occasions including a 40-point effort vs. Iowa (Nov. 17) followed by 39 points at Iowa State (Nov. 24). Dinnebier has also dished out double-digit assists four times including back-to-back 13 distributions. Her assist numbers rank in the top three nationally with 153 total assists and 7.3 assists per game.

Now in its 26th year, the Nancy Lieberman Award recognized the top point guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. To be considered for this prestigious award, candidates must exhibit the floor leadership, playmaking, and ball-handling skills of Class of 1996 Hall-of-Famer Nancy Lieberman.

Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting in both of the remaining rounds starting on Friday, Feb. 7, on hoophallawards.com. The Fan Vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process.

In March, the top 10 list will be narrowed to five finalists before being presented to the Hall of Fame's selection committees which will select the eventual winners. The selection committees for the Bob Cousy and Nancy Lieberman Awards are composed of top men's and women's college basketball personnel, media members, head coaches, information directors, and Hall of Famers.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) selected 50 standout women's college basketball players for its 2024-25 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Midseason Watch List. Members of the association's board of directors chose the players for consideration for the National Player of the Year. The Ann Meyers Drysdale Award winner is set to be announced at the NCAA Women's Final Four in Tampa, Florida, April 4-6.

The Ann Meyers Drysdale Award is presented annually to the women's national player of the year by the USBWA. Named for the legendary UCLA guard, the award was first presented in the 1987-88 season and formally named in Meyers Drysdale's honor in the 2011-12 season. Ann Meyers Drysdale played at UCLA from 1974-78, which pre-dates the USBWA All-America selections. She was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993 and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999.
