DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake women's tennis increased their winning streak to three matches with a successful Wednesday double-header. The Bulldogs make quick work of visiting Chicago State, winning both matches to move to 3-6 on the year.
Drake 7, Chicago State 0
The Bulldogs started with a bang in doubles play to open Wednesday's action. Drake earned the doubles point after teams of
Elizabete Klavinska/
Tess Caldicott and
Jana Ruzic/
Nicole Lee picked up tandem wins.
Drake then cruised through singles action with Caldicott, Lee, and
Shiori Takeda winning in straight sets. Klavinska, in the No. 1 spot, and freshman
Jessica Popiol, playing at No. 2, went down early in their bouts, but rallied to secure victories and nail down Drake's 7-0 team win.
Drake 4, Chicago State 0
The second match of the day skipped doubles play and went straight into singles competition. Chicago State provided less of a fight as Drake dominated the individual play and breezing to a 4-0 result.
The Bulldogs will host Omaha tomorrow evening before they head to California for their next two matches. Drake is set to visit Long Beach State (Mar. 18) and Cal State Fullerton (Mar. 19).
