DES MOINES, Iowa. – Drake's
Bennett Stirtz continues to garner recognition on a national level. The junior was named to the Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America Team on Tuesday.
This is the second consecutive year the Bulldogs have had a player earn All-America honors, as
Tucker DeVries received an Honorable Mention accolade last season as well. During the 2007-08 season, Adam Emmenecker was also named as an AP All-American Honorable Mention.
Stirtz, the Missouri Valley Player of the Year and All-MVC First Team selection, has been a catalyst for the Bulldogs all season long. He led Drake and the MVC with a 19.1 scoring average and steals (71-2.2 avg.), while ranking second in assists (188-5.7 avg.). He has scored in double figures in 31 of 33 games, scoring 20-plus points in 18 games including 10 of his last 13 games leading Drake to a sweep of the MVC regular season and conference tournament titles.
The 11-seed Bulldogs will play 6-seed Missouri in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Wichita, Kansas on Thursday, March 20. Tipoff is slated for 6:35 pm CT on truTv.
