Two School Records are Set as Bulldogs Complete Action at Jim Duncan Invitational

Drake enjoys plethora of positive finishes on home track

DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake track and field wrapped up a successful day at home on Friday with the collegiate portion of the 2025 Jim Duncan Invitational. The Bulldogs won seven events and toppled over 40 personal best marks on the Blue Oval.
 
Savannah Ming doubled up victories with a pair of sprinting wins. She took first in the women's 100m dash (12.13) and women's 200m dash (24.29). Briandrias Rhodes finished fifth in the same 200 (25.01) while the trio of Favor Omoijuanfo (12.60), Zofia Landowska (12.71), and Denae McElrath (12.71) all placed inside the top eight in the 100. Rhodes also finished sixth in the women's 400 with a time of 57.64.
 
Hayden Cross led the men's sprinters with a victory in the 400m dash. Cross ran his 400 in 48.56 and later took sixth in the 200 with a time of 21.92. Justin Cunningham earned both a third-place finish in the 100 (10.54) and fifth-place result in the 200 (21.90). Drake Dombrosky had a pair of positive finishes with fourth place in the 400 (49.37) and eighth in the 200 (21.99). Anthony Bradley rounded out the Bulldogs' sprinting efforts with a 49.88 400m dash, good enough for seventh.
 
Anastasia Kirillov, Emilie Meyer, and Aziz Jdai highlighted Drake's distance efforts with a win each. Kirillov outpaced the women's 5000m field in 16:49.39. Meyer won the women's 1500m Invite in 4:18.13. Jdai captured the men's 3000m steeplechase crown in 8:58.07. Chiara Belfico and Bowen Martin also ran the 5k in the women's and men's divisions, respectively. Belfico finished fifth in 17:59.03 while Martin took seventh in 14:54.88. Breanna Burak came across seven spots behind Meyer in the 1500 Invite with a time of 4:31.84. The quartet of Brogan Giffin (3:45.31), Juan Trasobares (3:46.70), Connor Visnic (3:47.78), and Aidan Palmer (3:48.12) finished fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth, respectively, in the men's 1500 Invite. Hannah Kilday summed up the Drake distance crew with a fifth-place women's steeplechase time of 11:44.94.
 
Elsewhere on the track, the Bulldog hurdlers were led by Dylan DeAngelo's third-place finish in the 400 hurdles with a time of 53.97. Madison Bunton took eighth in the women's race in 1:51.80. Emmaline Nau hurdled her way to sixth in the women's 100s (15.10) while Malachi Collier (15.46) and Khalil Kaba (15.65) finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the men's 110 hurdles.
 
Drake ran four relay teams that finished in the top five of their fields. The women's 4x100 and men's 4x400 each took runner-up status while the men's 4x100 and women's 4x400 collected fifth.
 
Lara Smits was the only winner in a loaded field of throwing events as she took top honors in the women's discus with a throw of 48.85m/160'-3". Smits was also the runner-up in the women's shot put at 15.28m/50'-1.75". Maud Visscher came in fourth in the women's shot with a heave of 13.64m/44'-9". Chinemerem Iwuagwu had a second-place effort of her own in the women's hammer throw at 56.77m/186'-3". Smits (49.13m/161'-2") and Visscher (48.55m/159'-3") followed her in fourth and sixth, respectively. Zofia Landowska rounded out the women's field events with a fourth-place finish in the long jump at 5.55m/18'-2.5".
 
Ethan Elliott shot put of 17.96m/58'-11.25", Malachi Collier's long jump of 6.92m/22'-8.5", Sam Carpenter's hammer throw of 61.54m/201'-11", and Christopher Norris' javelin chuck of 55.57m/182'-3" all finish third in their respective events. Adam Phillips added a fourth-place result in the men's hammer throw (60.53m/198'-7") and fifth-place finish in the men's discus (49.92m/163"-9"). Cooper Cerese posted a shot put throw of 17.55m/57'-7" to take sixth.
 
"[It was] a huge day for us on the Blue Oval." Drake head coach Jay Koloseus said. "We set two school records, had over 40 personal bests, and have event winners from all event groups."
 
The Bulldogs have a busy next two weeks with a pair of meets on the road and an even bigger home event. Drake will split their talents to the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calf. And the Kansas Relays in Lawrence, Kan. from Apr. 17-19 before returning to Des Moines for the 115th running of the Drake Relays presented by Xtream powered by Mediacom.
