SILVIS, Ill. – The Drake women's golf team finished in fourth place out of five teams at the WIU Intercollegiate after firing a 309 in the final round on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs' final round was the lowest score among the field, but previous rounds of 315 and 318 put Drake's 54-hole total at 942.
On the leaderboard Drake was led by
Julie Huggins, who tied for seventh at 231. Huggins was consistent throughout her 54-holes of play posting rounds of 75-78-78.
Sophomore
Kate Connolly, who was competing as an individual, also finished tied for seventh. Connolly shot an opening round 73, which was the lowest round by a Bulldog in the tournament, and followed with rounds of 78 and 80 for her 231 total.
The duo of
Amber Henson and
Erika Holmberg were next on the leaderboard for Drake with the pair of Bulldogs tying for 10th at 236. Holmberg bounced back nicely from an opening round 83 and improved each round with subsequent scores of 77 and 76, while Henson carded scores of 78, 82, and 76.
Rylee Heryford finished just outside the top-15, tying for 16th at 240 (79-82-79) and
Alexis Reyes rounded out the Drake lineup tying for 20th at 244 (84-81-79).
North Dakota took home the team title with a final score of 915 (292-304-319) and had the top individual in Kylie Warner at 221 (69-75-77).
Drake will return to action for the Missouri Valley Conference Championship two weeks from now for its next event. The MVC Championship will be held at Annbriar Golf Club in Waterloo, Illinois and will run from April 13-15.
