IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Drake women's golf team concluded play at the Diane Thomason Invitational hosted by the University of Iowa on Tuesday afternoon. After 54-holes of play, the Bulldogs finished in 13th with a team total score of 947 (322-311-314).
Iowa took home the team title with a final score of 25-over, 889. Montana State were the runners up in the tournament at 30-over, 894.
Freshman
Annabelle Bush, who competed in the event as an individual, posted the best finish on the leaderboard by a Bulldog. The Weldon Spring, Missouri, native, playing in just her second career tournament at the collegiate level, placed inside the top-20 and tied for 17th. She carded rounds of 78-76-75 for a total score of 229.
Of the main Drake lineup,
Alexis Reyes tied for 37th after rounds of 81-75-78 for her total tally of 234.
Kate Connolly was one shot behind Reyes with a 235 (80-79-76), making improvements with each round, and tied for 43rd.
Competing in her first tournament of the fall,
Amber Henson tied for 64th shooting a 239 (84-75-80). Meanwhile,
Erika Holmberg and
Julie Huggins ended their tournament tied for 71st and tied for 74th, respectively. Holmberg carded rounds of 80-83-80 for her 243 and Huggins shot 81-82-81 for her final total of 244.
Lauren Greeny from Montana State won individual medalist honors and was the only player in the field to shoot under par. She ended the tournament at 5-under, 211 (64-75-72).
Drake will be back in action next week for its penultimate tournament of the fall season at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational. The Bulldogs will tee it up from the Lawrence Country Club in Lawrence, Kansas, from Oct. 6-7.
