DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's tennis team was back in action for the second time in as many days on Sunday. The Bulldogs looked to log their first win of the season as Southeast Missouri State was in town, but a dramatic match slipped through their paws.
 
Maja Dodik and Kristina Tai got things off on the right foot for the Bulldogs (0-2), defeating SEMO's Juliette Demunck and Kristina Kozakova 6-1 in the No. 1 doubles match. The Redhawks were able to eventually secure the doubles point, however, as Maja Bakorek/Mia Mayerova and Yontha Tadoum/Sofiya Zemtsova won their respective doubles bouts.
 
Dodik's solid play continued into the singles portion of Sunday's tilt as she swept Bajorek 6-1, 6-2 to even the match. Jana Ruzic, Drake's star in its season debut yesterday, then beat Tadoum in straight sets at No. 4 to put Drake on top overall.
 
A Mayerova win came next before Tai outlasted Zemtsova in the No. 2 match by a 7-6, 6-4 tally.
 
Southeast Missouri State (2-3) was able to secure the 4-3 result thanks to a pair of lengthy wins by Demunck at No. 3 and Kozakova at No. 5.
 
Drake will be back in action next Saturday, Jan. 31, when they visit Lindenwood before returning to Des Moines for two straight home clashes.
