MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Drake Rowing was back on the water Saturday afternoon as it traveled north to Minneapolis, Minnesota for the Head of the Mississippi event.
The Bulldogs saw their two entries in the women's collegiate 8+ race finish in fifth and eighth place, respectively. The boat that finished in fifth registered a final time of 17:08.835 while the eighth-place finishers registered a final time of 19:13.682. A notable result from this event was that the fifth-place finishers for Drake ranked above all of rival Creighton's boats who Drake will race head-to-head against later this month.
Meanwhile, the Women's Novice 8+ came in first besting Nebraska by 1 minute and 30 seconds. The gold medal winning group finished with a final time 20:49.778.
Assistant coach Julia Walker had high praise for the Bulldogs in their second event of the fall.
"Today was a great day for the Bulldogs," Walker said. "As we continue to train hard the bar only goes up. With our Varsity 8 ranking above our rival, and our Novice 8 taking home gold, we continue to raise the bar. We will be stepping into two weeks of training before we head to Iowa City to compete. Looking forward to seeing the team gain momentum in this next training block and build off their success from this weekend."
Drake returns to competition when they battle against the University of Iowa from Iowa City on Saturday, Oct. 17.
