DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake women's tennis led from the jump in a 7-0 shutout of Chicago State on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs swept doubles action before a nearly perfect singles performance en route to their second win of the season.
Drake's teams of
Maja Dodik/
Jordane Dookie and
Milana Dejanovic/
Elizabete Klavinska made quick work of their Cougar counterparts with a pair of 6-1 wins. The Dogs' No. 1 doubles squad of
Kristina Tai and
Shiori Takeda needed a bit more to secure their victory, but were eventually able to edge Camila Sanchez and Karolina Skowronska, 7-6.
Klavinska had the best showing in singles play with a dominant win over Nadjema Morille in the No. 6 match. Klavinska went wire-to-wire for a 6-0, 6-0 decision.
Takeda, Tai, Dookie, and Dejanovic also won in straight sets.
The first singles match also provided the most drama as
Maja Dodik eventually came out on top. Dodik took the opening set, 6-2, over Skowronska before the Cougars' ace won the second, 6-1. Dodik later jumped on top for good in the third set, securing the final match and overall shutout.
Drake will be back in action this Sunday against Saint Louis. The Bulldogs and Billikens will get things going at 12:30 p.m. in the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
