DEBARY, Fla. – The Drake women's golf team wrapped up competition at the Babs Steffens Invitational on Tuesday afternoon and finished the tournament in eighth place among the 16-team field.
The Bulldogs carded a total score of 940 (319-313-308) after 54-holes of play in two days and made improvements with each round. Host institution Stetson won the team title by 10 shots over runner up Appalachian State with a final score of 867 (296-287-284).
On the individual leaderboard the Bulldogs had a pair of participants finish inside the top-20 with
Amber Henson and
Julie Huggins. Henson continued her strong start to the spring season tying for 16th at 229 (78-75-76). Huggins, meanwhile, finished in solo 19th and was just one shot behind her teammate Henson with a total score of 230 (76-79-75).
The rest of the Drake lineup all finished within three strokes of each other a little further down the leaderboard.
Rylee Heryford tied for 47th carding a 241 (82-80-79),
Erika Holmberg was next with a score of 243 (83-80-80) and tied for 55th, and
Kate Connolly placed 58th after shooting a 244 (87-79-78).
Alexis Reyes, who competed as an individual for the Bulldogs, placed in 73rd with rounds of 85-82-87 and a total score of 254.
The individual medalist honor went to Zoe Duval of Appalachian State who ran away with the tournament firing a 7-under, 206 (69-69-68).
The Bulldogs will next head to Abilene, Texas for the West Texas Classic from Abilene Country Club, March 2-3.
