PALM DESERT, Calif. – The Drake men's golf team finished up its time at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Wednesday afternoon and finished in 10th place among the 23-team field.
 
The Bulldogs fired a total score of 866 (285-291-290), for a composite score of 2-over. In total, eight teams finished the tournament scoring even par or better with Colorado, the No. 46 ranked team in the country, taking home the team title at 34-under, 830 (276-271-283).
 
Sam Johnson had another strong showing in the early goings of his spring season and had the highest finish for Drake on the individual leaderboard. Johnson was consistent throughout the tournament posting rounds of 71-72-70 for a total score of 3-under, 213. He ended up tied for 17th.
 
Next on the leaderboard for the Bulldogs were senior Nate Spear and junior Jake Weissenburger who finished one shot apart from each other at 216 and 217. Spear, who shot even par for the tournament recorded rounds of 69-74-73, while Weissenburger went 1-over with rounds of 75-72-70. Spear's opening round 69 was the lowest round of the tournament for the Bulldogs and he tied for 34th. Weissenburger meanwhile tied for 41st.
 
Freshman Luke Bohmer's final scorecard read a 4-over, 220 as he posted rounds of 70-73-77, which tied for 58th. Rounding out the Drake lineup was Dylan Drogemuller who tied for 98th at 230 (75-78-77).
 
Maryland's Emil Reigger improved six positions on the leaderboard to win the individual medalist honor at 206 (70-69-67) and bested Colorado's Brandon Knight and Jackson Rivera by one stroke.
 
The Bulldogs will have an extended break with one month before they return to action at the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate hosted by the University of Minnesota from Wigwam Golf Club in Peoria, Arizona March 23-24.
