The Basics
Drake women's tennis will finish its 5-match homestand with a Saturday slugfest against South Dakota (Mar. 14) before heading south for a matchup with Morgan State in Orlando, Fla. (Mar. 18).
Bulldog Breakdown
Drake splits its last two games by the same final tally. The Bulldogs dropped a 4-3 tilt against SIUE on Mar. 6, marking their fifth 4-3 defeat of the season. Drake bounced back to earn a win over Omaha by the same score the next day.
Drake's tandem of
Maja Dodik and
Jordane Dookie were named MVC Doubles Team of the Week just two days ago. Dodik and Dookie teamed up for two doubles wins at the Bulldogs' No. 2 position. The Dogs began the week with a 6-2 victory over Jessica Sue Li and Elena Palioura of SIUE. They proceeded to drop Omaha's group of Jacqueline Pearsall and Shelby Smith by the same score a day later.
Scouting South Dakota
The Coyotes enter this weekend with a 4-7 overall record and an 0-1 start to Summit League action. USD is riding a 2-match losing streak including a 5-0 shutout at Air Force before a 6-1 slip up in their league debut against Denver. South Dakota's last win came on Feb. 22 with a 4-3 home defeat of fellow MVC club UNI.
Drake leads South Dakota in the two teams' all-time series by a 10-1 margin. The Coyotes won the most recent meeting in 2024 for their first win in the series. Drake is looking to build upon its perfect 9-0 mark versus USD in Des Moines.
Scouting Morgan State
The Morgan State Bears, located in Baltimore, Maryland, are currently 4-5 on the season with wins in their last two bouts. The Bears shut out Mount St. Mary's and beat Frostburg State on Mar. 7. Morgan State will battle Fairleigh-Dickinson on Mar. 17 before taking on the Bulldogs.
Wednesday's spat will be the first ever meeting between Drake and Morgan State.
