AMES, Iowa – The 2026 regular season outdoor track and field schedule came to a close over the weekend as the Bulldogs made the short trip up Interstate 35 to the Cyclone Twilight in Ames. Drake produced two official winners and another unattached champion to highlight their final meet before focus shifts to the conference contest.
Maud Visscher continued her stellar spring with a first-place finish in the women's shot put. She out-threw the field in 15.82m/51-11 to take top honors. Visscher was also fourth in the discus at 48.00m/157-6.
Fellow women's thrower
Chinemerem Iwuagwu, who competed as an unattached athlete, won the hammer throw with a best heave of 59.21m/194-3.
Harrison McGregor added Drake's other winner on the men's side. McGregor was the discus champion with a top throw of 52.37m/171-10.
The Bulldog throwing squadron added several other impressive marks including three runner-up finishes and another top four placement.
Centaine Noom-Duckworth (women's hammer throw, 58.17m/190-10),
Ethan Elliott (men's shot put, 18.52m/60-9.25), and
Owen Spira (men's hammer throw, 59.72m/195-11) all took second place.
Adam Phillips rounded out Drake's top throwers with a fourth-place finish of 57.86m/189-10 in them men's hammer throw.
Ayla Barrett provided another top three mark in the women's high jump at 1.56m/5-1.25.
Daniel Rotich had the best finish on the track with a 3:45.08 time in the men's 1500, good enough for second.
Brenden Heitzig (3:47.28), and an unattached
Juan Trasobares (3:49.00) were second and eighth, respectively, in the same field.
Hannah Kilday and
Ellen Cook added to the effort of Drake's distance stable with a pair of top five finishes in the women's 3000m steeplechase. Kilday was fourth in 12:04.45 while Cook came in right behind her at 12:31.63.
Freshman phenom
Carter Beasley took eighth in the men's 800 at 1:49.43.
Drake's sprinting highlights were led by
Marieli Estrello's third-place flash of 12.23 in the women's 100m dash.
Favor Omoijuanfo was sixth in the women's 200 at 25.44 while
Emma Nau was eighth in the women's 400 with a lap of 59.54.
The Bulldogs also saw a quartet of 400m hurdlers finish inside the top six.
Berkley Munnings (53.94) and
Khalil Kaba (56.64) were fourth and sixth, respectively, on the men's side while Josilyn Dufoe (1:05.34) and
Sophia Bleich (1:09.81) for respective results of fourth and fifth.
Drake will be back on the road at the 2026 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend. Indiana State University is set to host this year's league meet in Terre Haute from May 16-17.
