IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Drake University track and field team had a large contingent in Iowa City over the weekend at the Musco Twilight meet. The Bulldogs came away with a pair of wins to highlight an impressive effort in their penultimate regular season contest.
Drake produced two wins on the men's side as
Carter Beasley ran 1:50.27 to take top honors in the 800 and
Xander Kwa outran the steeplechase field in 8:54.11.
Daghyn True and
Vaughn Larson were second and third, respectively, in the men's steeplechase. True paced 9:25.54 while Larson was close behind in 9:36.65.
Ella Brown and
Sophia Agan highlighted the women's effort on the track with a pair of runner-up finishes in the 400 and 3000, respectively. Brown sprinted 57.95 while Agan ran 10:08.22.
Avery Littlejohn was fifth in the women's 400 with a time of 1:00.81.
Amilia Condon and
Gracie Foster also represented Drake in the 3000 with respective marks of 10:18.31 and 10:21.48.
John Moellers finished third in the men's 3000 at 8:41.05 while competing unattached.
Other top three finishers were
Aidan Simon in the men's 1500 (3:53.37) and
Josiah Rainey in the men's 100 (10.74). Rainey was also fifth in the 200 at 21.46.
Marieli Estrello flew through the women's 100 and 200 with a fifth and sixth place result, respectively. She ran 12.36 in the 100 and 25.22 in the 200.
The Drake track outcomes were rounded out by two more fifth place finishes on the track as
Berkley Munnings lapped 54.68 and
Emma Nau ran 1:04.49 in the 400 hurdles.
Drake Dombrosky and
Khalil Kaba were sixth for the men's side in the 400 and 110 hurdles, respectively. Nau managed another top six placement in the 100 hurdles while
Favor Omoijuanfo was sixth in the 100.
Ayla Barrett was Drake's lone field event participant with a fifth-place finish in the high jump. She leapt 1.50m/4-11.
Drake will travel to Ames next week for the Cyclone Twilight on May 8 before turning toward postseason action.
