Prior to Drake: Earned Academic All-Big Ten honors at the University of Illinois during three-year stint in Champaign…member of Citrus Bowl Champion Illini team under head coach Bret Bielema…standout football player and wrestler at Regina Catholic in Iowa City…named First Team All-State in a Utility spot as a senior…also earned two All-Conference honors and three varsity letters.

Personal: Born November 2004…son of Jim and Mary Poynton…father played football at the University of Iowa (1985-90) and mother swam at Clemson and Iowa.
