STANFORD, CALIF. - Drake junior Ashley Anklam (Bloomington, Minn.) ran a personal best 16 minutes 48.24 seconds in the women's 5,000-meter run at the Stanford Invitational Friday night, while also achieving a NCAA Regional qualifying mark.

"For early in the outdoor season, Ashley ran a strong, outstanding tactical race," said Drake assistant track coach Dan Hostager.

Anklam earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Midwest Regional meet May 25-27 in Austin, Texas

"I felt really good," said Anklam, who was runner up in the 2005 Missouri Valley Conference cross country championships. "Achieving one of my goals of qualifying for the regionals this early makes the rest of the season easier to plan out."
