INDIANOLA, IOWA - The Drake men's and women's track and field teams won four events Friday night at the Simpson College Open.

Drake senior Matt Sanderson (Albuquerque, N.M.) won the men's triple jump, soaring 47 feet 2.5 inches, while sophomore Derek Johnson (Lone Tree, Colo.) won the men's 110 hurdles in 14.34 seconds.

Drake senior Katie Starks (Bellevue, Neb.) won the women's high jump at 5 feet 5 inches, while sophomore Jaron VanMaanen (Sully) won the men's high jump at 6-4.75.

It marked the final tuneup for the Bulldogs, before competing in the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships next weekend in Wichita, Kan.

Drake junior Jordan Malmstrom (Omaha, Neb.) placed fourth in the men's 100-meter dash in 10.83 seconds as well as fourth in the men's 200 in 22.13.

Sophomore Amy Garrett (Pleasant Hill) was second in the women's 1,500 in a season best 4:56.92, while Allison Poole(Lincoln, Neb.) placed fifth in the women's 400 hurdles in 1:08.85.
