ST. LOUIS, MO. - Drake sophomore
Angela Bys (Marion, Iowa/Marion) has been selected to the 13-member first team Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball Scholar-Athlete unit by a vote of the league's volleyball sports information directors, the league office announced on Tuesday (Nov. 25).
Bys started all 32 matches for Drake, averaging team highs in kills (397), kills per set (3.31) and attempts (1,117). She posted seven double-doubles this season en route to being ranked fifth in the MVC in kills, ninth in points (3.70) and 14th in services aces (0.22). In league-only tilts, she finished seventh in kills (3.18) and 10th in points (3.46). Her 1,117 attack attempts and 397 kills represented the seventh-best single-season marks in Drake history.
Bys maintains a 3.56 grade point average in secondary education.
To be eligible for nominations to the MVC Scholar-Athlete teams, nominees must own a cumulative GPA of 3.00 based on a 4.0 scale and be a starter or important reserve and have played in at least 75 percent of its team's matches. Student-athletes must also have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution and have completed at least one full academic year at the school.
The Bulldogs concluded their campaign with their highest-victory output (12) since claiming 13 wins in 1998, while recording the most conference wins (5) since the 2000 campaign.
