MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. --The Drake softball team used a six-run second inning to down Western Illinois, 6-1, in its season opener at the Metrodome Tournament Friday.
Leadoff hitter Lindsay Hession scored from third on a fielders choice to give Western Illinois a 1-0 lead.
Freshman 
Jenna DeLong (Dalton Gardens, Idaho) singled home seniors 
Jaci Faidley (Colfax, Iowa) and 
Susan Slycord (West Des Moines, Iowa) to begin the second inning for Drake. 
Sophomore 
Kelsey Kahler (North Liberty, Iowa) then slugged a three-run home run and Slycord  doubled-home sophomore 
Elena Leon (West Des Moines, Iowa) to cap the six-run inning.
Freshman pitcher 
Brynne Dordel (Chanhassen, Minn.) earned the first win of her collegiate career for the Bulldogs, recording seven strikeouts in six innings of work.
Drake faces off against Arkansas in its next game of the Metrodome Tournament at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
