MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. ? Iowa scattered four runs over the first four innings to down the Drake softball team, 4-1, in the Bulldogs final game of the Metrodome Tournament Sunday.
Senior
Jaci Faidley (Colfax, Iowa) drove in the Bulldogs lone run in the third inning when she hit an RBI double to plate senior
Susan Slycord (West Des Moines, Iowa), cutting Iowa's lead to 3-1.
The Hawkeyes scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Summer Downs drove in two runners on a long fly ball that hit the left outfield fence.
Iowa then took a 3-0 lead in the second frame when Chelsey Carmody hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Emily Nichols.
Jenny Schulke led off the fourth inning with a towering home run to cap off the Hawkeyes four run performance.
Senior
Kristin Birocci (Des Moines, Iowa) and Faidley had one hit each for the Bulldogs.
Drake, which fell to 2-2, will return to action at the Central Florida Tournament Feb. 22 facing off against Michigan at 9:30 a.m.
