DES MOINES, IOWA ? The Drake softball team dropped a twin bill to Missouri Valley Conference leader Creighton Tuesday at Buel Field. Drake fell, 8-0, in game one and 12-5 in the second game.
The Bluejays scored eight runs on eight hits to down the Bulldogs in the first half of the doubleheader.
A single up the middle in the third inning by freshman
Erin Bly (Frankfort, Ill.) represented the Bulldogs only hit of the contest.
Drake played decidedly better in the second game, taking a 4-2 lead in the second inning via a two-out two run home run by senior
Susan Slycord (West Des Moines, Iowa).
Creighton then scored four runs in the third inning to take the 6-4 lead.
Drake brought the game within a run in the fifth inning, 6-5, when freshman
Erin Mollohan (Tinley Park, Ill.) doubled-home senior
Jaci Faidley (Colfax, Iowa).
Drake then gave up six runs over the last two innings. The Bluejays outhit the Bulldogs 15-11 in the second game.
Slycord went 3-4 in the second game with two RBI and two runs scored.
Kristin Birocci (Des Moines, Iowa),
Carrie Hatfield (Des Moines, Iowa) and Mollohan each had two hits to help the Bulldogs effort.
Drake used three pitchers:
Jenna DeLong (Dalton Gardens, Idaho),
Brynne Dordel (Chanhassen, Minn.) and
Mandy Osborn (Blair, Neb.) in game two, which struck out a combined nine batters.
Dordel took both losses on the day falling to 13-7 on the season, while striking out 11 batters.
Drake hosts a three game series against MVC opponent Bradley this weekend starting at noon on Saturday with a doubleheader.
