AMES, IOWA ? The Drake softball team used back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning to down Iowa State, 2-0, in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday.
Sophomores
Kelsey Kahler (North Liberty, Iowa) and
Carrie Hatfield (Des Moines, Iowa) hit the back-to-back solo home runs over the left field fence to get the Bulldogs on the board in the fifth inning, 2-0. It marked the first collegiate home run for Hatfield.
Drake out hit the Cyclones, 7-4, in the contest.

Erin Bly (Frankfort, Ill.) each recorded a hit for the Bulldogs.
Freshman pitcher
Brynne Dordel (Chanhassen, Minn.) pitched her fifth complete-game shutout of the season while striking out 10 batters to improve her record to 13-5.
Iowa State had the tying run at the plate in the seventh inning, but senior catcher
Susan Slycord (West Des Moines, Iowa) picked off Syndi Jones at first to end the game.
