AMES, IOWA ? The Drake softball team dropped a 5-1 decision to Iowa State in the second half of a doubleheader Wednesday.
Senior
Marilyn Buss (West Des Moines, Iowa) hit a solo home run in the first inning to get the Bulldogs on the board early, 1-0.
The Cyclones tied the game in the fifth and took a 5-1 lead in the sixth after scoring four runs on four hits.
The Bulldogs got a runner on in the seventh but were unable to drive her in.
Drake was out hit by Iowa State 9-5.
Freshman pitcher
Jenna DeLong took the loss for the Bulldogs, falling to 3-6 on the season. DeLong allowed nine hits while striking out three batters.
Buss, sophomore

Kristin Birocci (Des Moines, Iowa) and sophomore
Elena Leon (West Des Moines, Iowa) each recorded a hit for the Bulldogs.
Drake won the first half of the doubleheader, 2-0.
The Bulldogs return to action Saturday hosting Southern Illinois in a Missouri Valley Conference doubleheader a noon.
