DES MOINES, IOWA -Three Bulldogs remain in contention for singles crowns, while a doubles team is guaranteed a title after Drake went 12-5 in combined singles/doubles matches on Saturday (Sept. 27) at the Drake Fall Invitational.
Freshman Jessica Aguilera (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/Saint George School) reached the title match of the “B” singles draw after downing freshman teammate Amanda Aragon (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins), 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinal round.
Senior Sarah Plowman (Halifax, Nova Scotia/Hallifax Grammar) matched her in the “C” flight following a 6-0, 6-3 decision over Sarah Cadwallader of Creighton.
In the “C” consolation round, freshman Earlynn Lauer (Wichita, Kan./Goddard) will square off versus Jordan Short of Central Arkansas in the title match after registering a 6-1, 6-4 triumph against Leesa Cadwallader of Creighton.
In the top doubles draw it will be an all-Drake battle as the tandem of freshmen Gabby Demos (Chesterfield, Mo./Lafayette) and Aragon tangle with seniors Veronika Leszayova (Povazska Bystrica, Republic/Gymnazium) and Plowman for the crown.
Action concludes on Sunday (Sept. 28) beginning at 9:00 a.m.
