TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Drake sophomore Ari Curtis (Fort Collins, Colo.) stood in fifth place after the first day of the heptathlon at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday.
Curtis, competing in just her second heptathlon, scored 2,871 points to trail first-day leader Erica Moore from Indiana State who has 3,271 points.
Curtis was third in the 200-meter dash in 25.52 seconds and finished fourth in both the 100 hurdles in 14.97 and high jump (5-3).
Drake junior Deidra Dirth (Apple Valley, Minn.) finished eighth in the women's javelin at 114-9.
Drake junior Matt Mobley (Huntley, Ill.) finished ninth in the men's javelin with a throw of 158-2.
Sophomore Mike Bumgarner (Rosemount, Minn.) was ninth in the men's 10,000-meter run in 32 minutes 40.20 seconds.
Drake sophomore Meredith Bell (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) was ninth in the women's 10,000 in 39.17.00.
