LOUISVILLE, KY. - The Drake men's tennis team was on
its game as the Bulldogs posted a 11-4 combined singles/doubles mark in first
day action at the Louisville Winter Invitational on Friday (Oct. 29).
Three Drake players
advanced into the semifinals of the two singles' flights led by senior Mauricio
Ballivian (Santa
Cruz, Bolivia), who registered a pair of victories in the "A" singles draw.
Ballivian opened play
by downing Joe Salisbury of Memphis, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5, before besting Elliott
Barnwell of Middle Tennessee State, 6-3, 6-3.
In the upper half of
the draw, freshman Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England) defeated Arren Carter of Louisville,
6-2, 6-2, before reaching the semifinals with a, 6-4, 7-5, decision past Cedric
De Zutter of Memphis.
In the "B" flight,
junior Jonathan Hadash (Lapid, Israel) dispatched of Kyle Wishing of Middle Tennessee State,
3-6, 6-3, 6-0, and Matt Davis of Kentucky, 6-4, 6-1.
Sophomore Ryan
Drake (Hilton Head
Island, S.C.) opened his round with a, 6-2, 7-6 (1) victory against Brad
Dicarlo of Butler, before falling to John Taylor of Memphis, 7-6 (5), 6-2.
In doubles, a pair of
Drake tandems posted wins. Drake
and sophomore Mark Fouad (Cairo, Egypt) bested Armaan Choudgary and Dave Regus of Chicago State,
8-1, while Ballivian and Hadash recorded an 8-6 victory over Maks Gold and
Grant Roberts of Kentucky.

play at 9:00 a.m. ET.
