WILMINGTON, N.C. - Registering its eighth victory in its last 10
matches, the Drake men's tennis capped its spring trip with a 6-1 triumph over
New Orleans on Friday (March 19).
"We played some
quality tennis outdoors this week and we're looking forward to carrying the
momentum over into Missouri Valley Conference play," Bulldog
head coach Jimmy Borendame commented.
Drake swept the doubles portion of
the affair with the tandem of freshman Jean Erasmus (Windhoek, Namibia) and sophomore Cesar Bracho (Luque, Paraguay) netting the deciding point with an
8-2 decision versus Ben Smith and Abdelrahman Zaki on the No. 2 court.
Sophomore Jonathan Hadash (Lapid, Israel) and senior Guilherme Marsiglia (Porto Alegre, Brazil) extended the lead to 3-0
with singles victories at the Nos. 6 and 3 positions, respectively.
Junior Mauricio Ballivian (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) secured the win in the
tilt on the strength of a 7-6 (4), 6-3 decision over Stepan Siska at the top
singles hole.
The Bulldogs also garnered
triumphs courtesy of Erasmus and Bracho on the Nos. 4 and 5 courts.
Drake
returns to action on April 1 as the Bulldogs open MVC action hosting Creighton
at 3:00 p.m. at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
