DES MOINES, IOWA -
The Drake University softball team fell, 6-0, to Missouri Valley Conference
rival Missouri State Sunday, snapping a four-game winning streak and ceding the
series sweep.
The Bulldogs managed just three hits on the day, one each
by Bridget Shields (Iowa City,
Iowa), Jenna DeLong (Dalton Gardens,
Idaho) and Lindsey Vande Wall
(Prairie City, Iowa). Freshman Macie Silliman (Winterset, Iowa) went 0-for-2,
snapping a five-game hit streak.
Missouri State pitcher Natalie Rose struck out five and
walked none in a complete-game victory.
Rose struck out the side in the second and faced just two
over the minimum after the first inning. She retired 11 straight batters
between the first and fifth innings.
DeLong was tagged for six runs (one earned) on nine hits
in the loss, her seventh of the season. The Drake defense made a pair of costly
that led to five unearned runs, including four in the seventh inning.
The loss put Drake at 28-12 on the season, including 9-5
in the MVC.
The Bulldogs host Creighton in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on
Wednesday.
