WATERLOO, IOWA - The Drake women's tennis team turned in a solid performance
in day one of the Northern Iowa Fall Invitational on Friday (Sept. 24) with
sophomore
Manca Krizman (Solkan, Slovenia) and senior
Jessica Labarte (Barcelona, Venezuela) moving forward
in their respective singles' flights.
The Bulldogs posted a 3-3 mark in singles action with
Krizman and Labarte winning their initial contests in the platinum and gold
flights, respectively.
Krizman bested Emily Rogers of Northern Illinois, 6-0, 6-2,
and Labarte downed Sarah McLaughlin, also of Northern Illinois, 6-4, 6-4.
Junior Earlynn Lauer (Wichita, Kan.) won her opening match versus Kelsey
Foster of South Dakota, 7-6 (5), 6-0, before dropping a 6-1, 6-2, decision
against Missouri's Maureen Modesto.
In doubles, Krizman and junior Jessica Aguilera (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) advanced in
the gold flight with an 8-5 triumph over Peta Forsyth and Ellie Kantar of
Minnesota.
